Congratulations on your birthing journey and passageway to parenthood (for the first or multiple time). Thank you for reading about me, it is important you find a good fit as a doula so here is a bit about me:
Education: I received DONA training in 2008 and took a Midwife Assistant Workshop at The Farm in Tennessee in 2012 under the instruction of Pamela Hunt and Ina May Gaskin. In 2015 I completed the Wise Woman Way of Birth Doula certification and also certified as a Holistic Doula with The Matrona, taught by my mentor midwife Whapio Diane Bartlett. In 2017 I again trained with Whapio in her course called ‘Supporting the Postpartum Psyche and Homeopathy’. In 2018 I became a certified Infant Massage Instructor. with the International Association of Infant Massage. I have co-facilitated MotherWise* groups alongside a registered counsellor for 3 years = *support for birthing parents experiencing post partum mood changes. I am an Infant Development Program consultant for my day job and a co-facilitator for prenatal education in Nelson. I am now beginning studies in Infant Mental Health and this, along with infant sleep support is an area of particular interest.
Personal: In 2013 our lovely daughter was born in our Nelson living room with 2 midwives, a doula and an incredible partner as support. In 2016 our chill little son was born in our home on the mountainside in a snow storm with a midwife, doula, friend and same wonderful partner.
Views: My experiences have taught me that respect is the most important quality of a positive birth experience. If we trust our bodies, our own timeless strength as women / birthing parents, and our caregivers, and if we have a comfortable space in which to birth, we can have an empowering experience. When interventions arise, information about the possible outcomes must be provided (prenatal conversations) so the experience is still empowering and one of respect.
Offerings: I offer emotional support, physical support and information so you can make informed decisions towards attaining the birth experience you are looking for. I hold space for you to do your birth work and step in when asked or felt. I offer labour massage, suggestions for comfort positions during the birth process, infant massage and baby wearing support. I will discuss concerns and questions with you as you prepare and throughout the birth process if the need arises.
I offer: 1 initial free visit to see if we are a good fit 2-3 visits during your pregnancy, or more if we are able phone support throughout your pregnancy phone support 24/7 2 weeks before guess date labour support wherever you choose to birth 2+ home/hospital visits after the baby is born lending library baby massage baby wearing tips
I am comfortable attending home births or hospital births with midwives, birth attendants, or doctors, as your comfort is essential to open into birth. I live in Blewett so my usual support area is roughly 6mile to Shoreacres to Vallican, but a good fit is a good fit and i’ve gone as far as Trail :)
Investment: I ask for an initial deposit of $150, and a total of $450-700, ideally paid the month following the birth. I do not want money to be a barrier to birth support, so please contact me, and we can discuss partial trades and options.
All prenatal visits can be done in your home or wherever you feel comfortable- cafe, on a walk, in a pool! Please contact me at [email protected] or cell: 250-777-3816 and leave a message.
